The Lifeless Seed

When a seed is planted

deep within the earth,

Its lifeline is the strong root

connected to Mother’s womb.

Thirsting for nutrients, fluid

pumps through the veins—

The only form of food, until

it’s birthed into the world.

Before it can emerge,

a man with cold hands

Rips the seedling from the

warmth and comfort of the soil.

All hopes of growing

beautiful, tall, and strong—

With its first and final breath,

                                                       gone.
